Fire Station #30

Summary

Fire Station #30 was constructed to suit the modern needs of an emergency service facility along with the needs of those who live and work in the station. This includes accommodating the modern machinery used in the facility and planning for contingencies such as biohazards and contamination cleanup. The building was constructed using light-weight framing that required great attention to detail for proper installation. The copper cladding system that was used on the building required a great deal of detail work, each panel was custom fabricated for a perfect fit.

This project was able to achieve LEED® Gold certification. Geothermal wells that extend 300 feet below the building provide heating and cooling for the living areas of the building while high efficiency gas heaters serve the apparatus bay. The living areas utilize natural ventilation with operable windows in the bunk areas and there is ample daylighting throughout the building. The project features a bio-swale for collection of storm water and a large detention vault that was added to the design of the project during construction

The building is truly unique and is a point of pride for the City and neighborhood. Fire Station #30 is a nationally recognized project, winning the top honor of ABC National Excellence in Construction Eagle Award.
